Trip West - New Mexico, Arizona

Since my last post we have traveled farther west.  We left Carlsbad, New Mexico on Wed 05/16 and drove to  Rockhound SP near Deming, New Mexico.  We traveled south from Carlsbad past the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, then west to El Paso, Texas.  Fort Bliss Army Base is in El Paso, but it did not appear to be very 'blissful' from what I saw. We stopped for lunch at the welcome center as we entered New Mexico again. We stayed at Rockhound SP which is between the Small Florida (flor-ee-da) mountains and the Big Florida Mountains.  Very hot, dusty, place but was fun.  We did some rock hunting, you can keep 15lbs for your collection or rock garden. We went into Deming for supper at a McDonalds so we could us their WiFi.

We left Rockhound today Friday 05/18 and drove to Show Low, Arizona & are staying at Fool Hollow Rec Area in the Redhead Loop of the campground.  Very nice campground.  The trip today took us over the San Francisco Mountains which is part of the Apache Nation Forest.  We kept seeing signs to watch out for Elk, and Deer, but did not see any.  It was very windy today with wind gust of 40 - 50 mph.  We stopped for lunch at Luna Lake, Arizona,  it was so windy we had to eat in the camper.

We will be here until Monday.  Tomorrow we are going back into New Mexico to the El Morro National Monument area and the Bandera Volcano & Ice Cave.  We are also going to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.

I will post some more pics this weekend. We are having a fantastic time.  The scenery changes each day.  We are in mountains, desert area. Very cool at night, very warm/hot during the day.  Monday it is on to the Grand Canyon.  I will be in touch.
