Carlsbad Caverns

A couple of pics of cows along the road outside of the campground.  We have been reminded that this is open range country.  There are cattle guards on the roads to keep them from getting to the main highways.
.

After turning off the main highway it is about 7 miles to the cavern visitor center.  This is Linda sitting under an overhang that was could have been used by Native Americans for shelter.
Tom exploring and taking pics.

We are at the visitors center ready to explore the Carlsbad Caverns.

As I said at the end of my previous post, my words and picture will not do the caverns justice.  I will share some pics with you.  There are three tours you can take, so we took the self guide tour of the Big Room.  First we had an elevator ride down 750 feet below ground (took about 58 seconds, almost a free fall!).  The big room is 8.2 acres, takes about 1.5 hours to tour it. One of the signs in the visitors center says that 14 football fields would fit in the Big Room.

 The Chandelier
 The Totem Pole
 The Cave Man.

When Linda and I approached this next pics, we both thought it looked like Frankenstein's monster.

We thought this maybe looked like a really old man??
I tried to take a pic of the elevator counter as we were going back up, but it did not come out.  The counter was in feet. 0 - 750 going down.
In the next picture there are two aliens in it, can you tell who they are???????
 More aliens.
This is me standing under the overhang.
The caverns was a great experience.  We had a great time.
