When we left Garryowen, MT on our way to Mt Rushmore area, we stopped at the Devils Tower National Monument. Not sure why the name Devils Tower, but Indian lore says that a giant Grizzle Bear chased some of their people up this tower and clawed the marks in the side of the tower. It is an very tall tower.
One of the animals we saw on our way into Custer State Park, near Custer, SD. This is a beautiful state park rivaling some of the national parks for size, animals, campgrounds and just plain beauty.
Our campsite at the Game Lodge Campground. Not sure what I was doing except maybe trying to check email with spotty internet access??
A beautiful picture of a buffalo just down from the campsite.
Three pics of Pronghorn or Antelope.
A herd of buffalo with calves
More Pronghorns.
Prairie Dogs were all over the place. There were really barking on this day.
An old burro we saw on our way to Mt Rushmore.
One of three small tunnels that were on our way.
On this day 111 new citizens were being sworn in at Mt Rushmore.
At first Mt Rushmore doesn't look so imposing as the pictures we are used to seeing, but when you consider that Washington's nose is 21 feet long you begin to see the enormous size of the faces and the task that took place to accomplish this.
Take note of the glasses on Teddy Roosevelt.
On the way out this is the profile picture of Washington.
Linda caught me unawares, reading something about the area maybe??
Linda has done a great job on the picture taking.
